About

Gemma Whitford - Visual Artist

BA Fine Art (Hons) Nottingham Trent School of Art and Design 2006

Foundation Studies from North Oxfordshire school of Art and Design 2003

Inspired by the natural world, Gemma can often be found immersed capturing flowers, birds and wildlife in ink and watercolour. Often drawing things that are found in the garden or found in the surrounding countryside. She enjoys practising mindful drawing techniques such as blind, continuous line, and non-dominant hand drawings.

Gemma fell back in love with drawing during the 2020 lockdown. She found small snippets of time to draw in her sketchbook. In joining a group online called the still point sketchers and by continuing to produce daily drawings it awoke her creativity.

Gemma is a busy Mum of two girls and her husband is a busy Systems Engineer who travels frequently with work. They moved to Rugby in 2013 and before that she used to work at Arts Council England based in Nottingham, as Office Services Manager and Assistant Funding Programmes.

She draws and paints whilst her children are at primary school. She has begun to exhibit work in galleries and sells framed originals in shops and coffee shops  around Warwickshire. She is  a very active member of Rugby Artists and Makers Network and you can often find her at Art at the Alex although she is based from home.
